This piece of media sticks out to me because the message that it conveys is much different than others. The artist, Cage the Elephant wants to make the point that they make music purely for themselves despite what anyone thinks of their sound. In the beginning, the lyrics mention failure but the band’s perseverance to keep making the music they love eventually brought them fame and fortune. Still, Cage feels like the messages behind their songs are overlooked because of their success so “In One Ear” voices this agitation by stating that the crowd does not care what they have to say, they care about getting drunk and having fun. I think this is a powerful message coming from this band because most of the band members had rough upbringings and came together as a form of release. I feel like this “story” is incomplete, or that it is just the beginning of greatness. “In One Ear” is the first song featured on the album, so Cage hopes that the rest of the album is listened to and analyzed for the message, not just because of its reputation.
I like that this band does not follow the norms of society. They make music for themselves, ignoring the stereotypes of ordinary bands. By creating unique lyrics to tell their story, they can relate to anyone.
ReplyDeleteI like how open this band is about their message! They don't try to be like any other band, which makes them super unique! The music video is awesome!!
