I choose the song “Vultures” by John Mayer as an influential piece of audio media. The message the artist is trying to convey is that we, as a society, need to view ourselves as something greater than just a number and that we should be weary of the “vultures” feeding off of our lack of individualism. I believe John Mayer uses a very unique technique of adding lengthy guitar solos after choruses, putting a spin on his already rare blend of acoustic rock and blues and proving his unique style is greater than what the music industry might consider trendy and popular. Though traditionally targeting a female audience, Mayer puts more thought into social standings and individualism rather than sappy heartstring tuggers he is traditionally acquainted with. I think the story this song is sending is true in almost any situation and personally relates to myself as a soon-to-be college student at a large public university. The truth is I am absolutely terrified that my entire being for the next four years will be just a number and a source of income, rather than a student wishing to pursue a career and start her future, and I believe these lyrics perfectly encapsulate the struggles our static society fails to recognize.
individualism is what makes us who we are, and this makes a strong point that society needs to hear.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love John Mayer and this song! I think it relates a lot to my post and the fear we are all going through knowing that in a few months we will all be thrown into scary and unfamiliar situations and we are forced to find ourselves on our own.
