The music video for “Luxury” by Jon Bellion displays many different messages. Some of which are that we can not let the seven deadly sins control who we are. In the video, a young Jon can be seen running from Lust. This shows how as a young boy, himself and many other boys become obsessed with fulfilling sexual desires. Also, the scenery of him as a boy is very imaginative. The grand halls with pillars and red drapes symbolize how he was more imaginative as a kid. As the video progresses he gets older and faces more of the seven deadly sins such as gluttony and greed. The progression of his age shows how despite him getting older, he still struggles with the temptation of these sins. However, new sins reveal themselves which trump older ones. The grand halls of his childhood are also replaced with more practical streets of New York, where Jon was born and raised. The video concludes with Jon realizing that he is not alone in the fight against sin. The flickering flames of other people just like him can be seen in all directions. The lyrics describe how despite him having more money now, he hopes that it does not consume him. He longs for things like love and happiness, not money and fame. Jon has had several projects such as: Scattered Thoughts Vol. 1, Translations Through Speakers, The Separation, and The Definition. Jon’s biggest hit came from the Eminem song The Monster. Jon wrote the hook that Rihanna sings, and Jon got songwriter credits for his contribution. The song won a Grammy award. The intended audience is young adults. The story is complete because it goes through the whole span of his life up to the present moment in the video. The video means a lot to me because I will experience all of the things represented in this video.
Interesting music video! Very representative of coming of age.
