The media I analyzed is called Jesus Walks by Kanye West and the verse I always notice and pay most attention to when I listen to this song is towards the end of this song. “So here go my single dog radio needs this. They said you can rap about anything except for Jesus. That means guns, sex, lies, videotape. But if I talk about God my record won't get played. Huh?” To me, this represents how sensitive our society can be to content regarding religion. People are allowed to have their own opinion and Kanye West always has his own opinion and is never afraid to express it. Religion is always touchy subject for people and I do not think people should be afraid to proclaim their faith or how they think the world was made or what happens when your dead. Our society is so accepting of profanity and talk about sex and violence, but it’s “unacceptable” to talk about what you believe in. Overall, my favorite line from this song is probably “I ain't here to argue about his facial features or here to convert atheists into believers I'm just trying to say the way school need teachers the way Kathie Lee needed Regis, that's the way I need Jesus”. I’m not the most religious person, but I do believe in some sort of higher being and I admire the way Kanye expresses his belief because it does not seem to offend anyone and people should stop being so sensitive to what OTHER people believe. I think the message of this song is intended for anyone who enjoys the art Kanye West makes or anyone who needs to feel like they can/should demonstrate their ideology.
I agree religion is a touchy subject! If people don't agree with others on what to believe in, it's the end of the world!! Good wording Kelly!!!!!!
ReplyDeletethis is such a good point! society is really sensitive to people's views, but not anything else. It's cool that Kanye was able to express that and be himself.
