In the music video “Maps” by Maroon 5, the group does a wonderful job of telling a real story throughout the video. In this video there is a couple who attend a party together. Quickly into the video you see the man kissing another woman and his girlfriend witnessing. She storms out of the house and proceeds to walk along the sidewalk until she is bothered by a homeless man who she tells to stop bothering her. Not realizing that in the process she steps out into the street unaware a car is proceeding her way. Unfortunately she is struck by the car. The twist to the video is that the scenes start from end to beginning. Starting with the man rushing into the hospital trying to look for his girlfriend and finishing with the couple getting ready together for the party. However the very end of the video shows the girlfriend laying in a hospital bed and the sound of the heart monitor making a distant continuous beeping noise. I perceived this message in a few different ways. One way is to be careful with your actions because you never know the outcome of what you do. We must think before we act because a lot of us act and then think and that is what can creates issues. Another way I took this is that life could end at any moment. Life is a great gift and we should be careful of how we live it because it can be taken away from us at any time. Be careful and cherish life as much as you can.
